Approach

Formulaic approaches toward developing a strategy and the formation of intent are rarely fruitful. Yet quality business cases that clearly communicate the conditions for success, the requirements of the plan, the risks that can be mitigated and those that cannot is as important as ever.

I like to challenge the nature of the problem deeply and the necessary criteria to achieve strong intent. Then, bring the components of the project together in a delivery plan that has sufficient clarity to gain a strong base of commitment across all those involved.

About Martin

Solving complex business problems that involve a combination of a growth opportunity, good people – their aspirations and concerns, combined with a set of assets and capabilities, has always excited me. No two challenges are ever the same. Rather, each challenge is a test, a puzzle to be solved.

In my opinion, formulaic approaches to problem solving rarely work. Rather, it’s more fruitful to take the time to understand the outcomes sought and challenges involved. What are the factors that must be made true to achieve success? What are the real influences and drivers for these factors? Stakeholder commitment is always conditional – what are the conditions for support? What is the sequence of delivery that can build trust and confidence in the outcomes required?

Then, and only then, does real clarity on the real problem(s) to be worked through emerge.

I have an MBA with distinction from Victoria University, Wellington, with an economics focus. This combined with an extensive and diverse career enables me to bring a comprehensive toolkit to the table.
